Here we go again!

We are staring 2015 in the face and I can barely remember 2014.  It was a whirlwind year of new state, new job, new home. It seems a blur of new and busy. I don't really need to re-cap my year, it's out there on Facebook for anyone to see, so I guess I will look forward to 2015.

I never make resolutions but I do spend the first week of each year setting goals. I also like to clean out my house but that may have to wait.

 Here is the short list:

1. Eat healthier. I don't need to diet but I do need to stop eating donuts and drinking Starbucks. Fair warning, if I do give up Starbucks they will definitely lose income so keep an eye on their stock.

2. Work out. Hahahaha.. no really!  I walk two miles a day but with the aforementioned donuts I need to head back to the gym. I was doing so well and I just got sidetracked by life. Also, the closest gym is packed all the time so I never want to go with the masses. Working out relieves my stress so I need to get my butt to the gym.

3. Get a handle on my budget.  I am not a crazy spender but I would like to tighten up a few things.

4. . Volunteer. I don't think it's the lack of opportunity but I do think my busy life makes me hesitate to commit. I promise myself to find time for this.

5.. Last and probably least, date!  I totally failed Match.com! I didn't get any interest. I am not sure why. I think because I am normal, not needy and can take care of myself. I have a feeling I could be a little picky too. Even though it is super difficult for me, I am going to put myself out there and just start saying yes. I am not looking for another husband but I am looking for someone to do stuff with.

This is the blueprint I am heading into 2015 with. I like to set goals I can reach and then feel good about and not ones that would be epic fail and feel bad all year. I will keep you posted...hey another goal!

Dallas is not my favorite city this week

So, as I said in my last post, we were burglarized. The person in the next unit to our storage unit cut a hole in the wall and took over $40k worth of stuff. Most of it was my sister and her family's  clothes and furniture. It 's a long sad story made worse by the absolute inept way the Dallas police have handled the entire affair.

I have been trying to get a copy of the police report for over a week. The least amount of time I was on the phone, on hold was 25 minutes. Today it was over 35.  I called the detective three times with no call back and I called his sergeant with no help. Finally, finally I got in touch with the detective. He didn't have a clue. I told him I needed to make sure the report was in my name for the insurance. It  is in my sisters name so I asked him if he could correct it. He told me to go downtown to the main police station records and get a copy and see if they could help me. I asked if he could just do an addendum or some kind of update. He told me "if they can't help you downtown, call me back" Trying not to scream at him,  I politely asked him again if he could fix it. His response, "if they can't help you downtown, come to our office and we will re-do the report".

I can't even....

This is going to involve time off of work and my patience being shredded. Wish me luck, I am going in!  If you me on the news please start a Crowd funding account for my bail.

And so it goes

As some of you  may know, my sister and her family have been living with me while she looks for a full-time job. They put all of their belongings in a storage unit except what they thought they would need immediately.  The unit was packed tight by the movers, front to back, top to bottom. When Molly came home from college her stuff was put in the front.

We haven't been to the unit since August but we all needed some cooler weather clothes and I needed my winter shoes/boots for a trip to Chicago. My sister and I headed over there last night only to find out the entire unit was ransacked and robbed.

We won't be able to tell exactly what is missing until we can start pulling things out but it looks like they spent a lot of time in there opening bags of clothes, moving everything around and taking at least one television, some electronics and bags of clothes. I cant' find my winter stuff including my comforter and plastic bin of boots.

We know, "it's only stuff". No one was hurt, everyone is ok but it's such a violation and my sister has been struggling this past year looking for a job it just feels like one more crappy thing to happen.

Please keep Suzanne, Kevin, Molly and Paige in your thoughts and prayers while they are going through this difficult time.

Time sure does fly

I was amazed when I looked at my blog and realized I haven't posted in over six months! I can't even begin to think what has kept me so busy that I didn't take a few minutes to add something here.  I have been doing a little exploring of the Dallas area and I work pretty hard but jeez...

This has been an interesting summer. My sister and her family moved in with me in June. She has had a terrible time trying to find a full-time job (she works part-time at a store) and they needed some help so now I have three and a half people living with me in my two-bedroom condo. I say half because Molly graduated from college a few weeks ago and she stays with us some time and with her boyfriend some of the time. It's all working out but we all can't wait for them to get their own place.

I went to Seattle in July and had the most relaxing time with my brother's family. The weather was beautiful. I usually go in the winter so this was my first summer trip. I will never go back in the winter again! The kids and my sis in law and I  spent time hanging at the beach and just being lazy. It was exactly what I needed.

Work on the condo hasn't progressed as I had hoped. With so many people living there is just too much going on  to find the time to paint and do the things I want. Winter will be here sooner or later and I hope we can get something done when it cools off. Speaking of heat, I am really getting used to the weather here. I thought it would be worse but it's not bad. My poor dog doesn't tolerate it very well. There are nights we walk at 9:00 pm and it's 90 out. The poor thing just wants to get back in the cool house!

I guess I need to schedule some time to post a little more than every six months.  I have recently started the on-line dating thing so that should make for some interesting reading!

The Search for Sleep

I am on the hunt for sleep. I have never been a good sleeper. I wake up at every little mouse fart. My dog walking around, cars outside, wind...everything wakes me up. As most of you know, I moved to another state, started a new job and bought a new place to live, all within about three months. What you may now know and what I usually don't share is that all these changes gave me anxiety. The anxiety kept me awake and it is a vicious cycle. I can't sleep because I worry I won't sleep.

I don't usually share my most personal details but I have a reason this time. My doctor put me on Xanax. She then had me try Zoloft and when I had an adverse reaction to that switched me to Prozac. I had a reaction to that too.  In the mean time I am going to acupuncture treatments, trying Melatonin, Tumeric tea, and counseling.  None of this seems to be working so I am looking for solutions.  Both my doctor and counselor tell me this is "situational" insomnia and will eventually go a way but I sure don't want to be on drugs any longer.

I am very lucky to have a great manager who understands what I am going through and is very supportive but seriously, it is starting to affect my day-to-day well being.

If you have any ideas, have gone through a long bout of insomnia or just want to share please comment below.

New Digs!

I have been pretty busy and haven't gotten to my blog lately so I thought it was time for an update. This is it. A cute 2 bedroom, 2 bath semi-detached condo.  After living with my sister and her family for four months (!!!) I am very ready to get into my own place.  I close next Friday but won't move in until the following weekend.  It was mostly remodeled for the sale so I don't have anything major to take care of right away. I don't like the granite and tile in the kitchen but I won't be replacing it until I live with it for awhile to see what I really want.  I bought a couch! It was a major purchase for me. Thankfully I have most of the other furniture I need.

The other thing that has been keeping me busy is my new job. I have been here one month and it seems to be going well. They put my name on my door today so I guess they aren't going to fire me! I have been having some stomach upset and missed a few days of work and my new boss is super cool about it so I guess I won't quit. The drive from my sister's is about 1/2 hour in the morning but an hour in the afternoon. The Dallas/Ft.Worth area has over 6 million people and Dallas alone has 1.2 million aaand they are all on the road at 5:00 pm!!  My new place is more centrally located so I am hoping the drive will be better at night.

Lots of changes in a very short time but I am really enjoying it plus I picked the perfect winter move away from Michigan!
